Apple Pencil, Pressure and Smoothing
How to use Apple Pencil in Procreate, and how to adjust Pressure and Smoothing:
Apple Pencil, once connected to your iPad, should work immediately in Procreate. You can customise how the pressure of the Apple Pencil responds and the effect it has on brushes, and you can set the global stabilisation settings. This article will explain both.
Connect Apple Pencil to your iPad:
This video demonstrates how to enable Bluetooth in the Control Center and connect your Apple Pencil 2nd Gen or Pro to your iPad:
Swipe down from the top right of your iPad screen to access Control Center
In the connections subsection normally on the top left, enter Bluetooth® and switch this on
Attach your Apple Pencil to your iPad, and await the dialogue that appears letting you know that it's connected and the current battery level
Paint with the pencil and adjust pressure
This video demonstrates painting with a pressure-sensitive brush (Painting → Flat Brush), using QuickShape to straighten the lines, and showing you how to access the Pressure and Smoothing settings:
Increasing the value of the sliders at the top of the Actions → Prefs → Pressure and Smoothing menu will increase the amount of stabilization that applies to all your brushes. The graph below shows:
The pressure of your pencil input on the X axis, from no pressure (far left) to high pressure (far right)
The effect of that pressure on your brushes on the Y axis, from no effect (bottom) to maximal effect (top)
As an example, if your brush gets more opaque with more pressure, but it takes too long, make the curve more aggressive by tapping to add a node in the centre of the graph, then raising this slightly. This means that on the same point on the X axis (pressure input), the curve is higher on the Y axis (pressure effect) than before, meaning the brush will be more visible with less pressure.
Danger
We generally don’t recommend adjusting your global pressure settings unless you need to. The brushes are designed to work for most cases, and adjusting the curve can have unwanted results.

Resetting Pressure & Smoothing
This video shows you how to reset the Pressure & Smoothing section if you make any unwanted adjustments:
Head to Actions and enter Prefs → Pressure and Smoothing
Tap Reset all at the bottom of this menu (you may have to scroll down to see this, by swiping upwards with a finger)
Tap Reset all and confirm this by tapping 'Reset' when the dialogue appears
