Importing images
You can import a wide variety of image formats into Procreate such as:
.procreate
.psd
.jpeg

.tiff
.gif
.pdf
Heads Up
The vector formats .ai, .eps, and .svg are not supported in Procreate.
There are two different ways to import files and images within Procreate. You can:
Create a new artwork by importing an image; or
Add images to an existing artwork.
Pro Tip
There are a variety of ways to copy files from your Mac or PC to iPad, such as AirDrop and Drag and Drop.
How to create a new artwork by importing an image
In the Gallery of Procreate, tap Import to open the Files app, or tap Photo to open the the Photos app.
In Files or Photos, tap the file or image you wish to import.
The file or image you selected will appear in the Gallery as a canvas, and will immediately be opened. All information such as the resolution and color profile will also be imported.
Pro Tip
You can drag and drop any compatible image from another app into Procreate's Gallery in order to import it.
How to add images to an existing artwork
In your canvas, tap Actions → Add → Insert a file to open Files app, or Insert a photo to open the Photos app.
In Files or Photos app, tap the files or images you wish to import.
The files or images you selected will import as new layers in your artwork.
Pro Tip
You can drag and drop any compatible images from another app into a Procreate canvas in order to insert them as layers directly.
Heads Up
If you import a .psd file to an existing artwork it will be added as a flattened image with no layers. To preserve layers, use the ‘create new artwork’ import method above.
