How large can I make a canvas?
Your iPad model determines your maximum canvas size in Procreate. Generally, the newer the model, the larger the canvas you can create.
Based on your hardware, your canvas size has two limits:
the maximum total pixel size; and
the maximum pixel width or height (longest edge).
You’ll need to consider both when creating large canvases.
You can find your device's maximum canvas size below .
Heads Up
Canvas size impacts the number of layers you have available. Use this layer calculator to see how various canvas sizes affect layer limits on your iPad.
Maximum total pixel size
The maximum total pixel (px) size is calculated by multiplying the pixel width (w) and height (h) of your canvas.
e.g. A 1,000px(w) ✕ 1,000px(h) canvas = 1,000,000 pixels (1 megapixel)
Maximum total pixel size limits by device are below .
Maximum pixel width or height (longest edge)
Canvas width and height are set when you create a new artwork or update them on an existing artwork (through Actions menu → Crop & Resize → Settings).
Each device has a maximum number of pixels for either height or width. You can find these below .
The maximum width and height dimension limits are also based on the maximum total pixels your hardware can support.
