Procreate Dreams 2 file upgrade
File upgrade process
After updating from Procreate Dreams 1 to Procreate Dreams 2, you will be presented with a welcome screen, followed by a Brushes system upgrade .
Once your brush upgrade is complete and you tap on one of your existing Procreate Dreams projects, file upgrade will begin, ensuring that your movie is editable and shareable in Procreate Dreams 2.
Please keep Procreate Dreams open and in the foreground during the file upgrade - failure to do so can result in a failed upgrade. The upgrade may take some time, especially if your movie is large and/or complex.
Best practice - clear up some space
As a rule of thumb, check the size of the movie file by heading to Files → On My iPad/iCloud Drive → Procreate Dreams → Theater → tap and hold the file → Get Info (Size). Ensure the iPad has at least 150% of that value free. For example, if the file is 10GB, ensure 15GB is free on the iPad.
We realise that this will not be feasible in some cases. You can still attempt to upgrade your files, but this may not succeed if you don't have enough free space. If an upgrade fails, please head to the ' Unable to upgrade? ' section.
When your file has completed its conversion, you can enter it and begin to work with the new tools and features. Your file will have a number appended to differentiate it in the file system, and your old file will remain in the Theater, too.
The upgrade process means that your file is usable in the new system, but you may still need to resize drawn content to fit within the maximum resolution. You can convert visual content to Flipbooks if you like, too.
Do I need to upgrade my files?
You will need to upgrade your files from Procreate Dreams 1 files to Procreate Dreams 2 files if you would like to edit them further or share them as movies compatible with the new version.
Unconverted files will appear with a small grey icon reading '1.0', to the left of the filename in the Theater:
Tap on a Procreate Dreams 1 file to begin the upgrade process.
Trouble upgrading?
In the majority of cases, a failed upgrade indicates that there is not enough free space on your iPad to perform the conversion.
If an upgrade fails, you should receive an error message indicating the cause of the problem. It may look like this:
If you run into this trouble, please try following these steps from Apple to clear up space on your iPad so that you have at least 150% of the file size free.
Consider removing unwanted apps and media to see if you can free up space. After freeing up space, attempt the file upgrade again by tapping 'Try again' on the upgrade dialogue, or tapping on a Procreate Dreams 1 file.
Failed to upgrade?
If you receive the below error, the movie is unable to upgrade to the new system.
In this instance, please contact our team and provide us with the .drm file itself.
This will either be in Files → On My iPad → Procreate Dreams → Theater, or iCloud Drive → Procreate Dreams → Theater, depending on your chosen storage location. Attach this to the Support Form request so that we can attempt to help.
Incomplete upgrade?
In some instances, a movie may successfully upgrade, but some drawings may have encountered issues during conversion:
In this case, please enter and check the movie content for any visual defects. The troublesome drawings may or may not alter the look and feel of your movie.
If you have problems after an incomplete upgrade, please send the original, unconverted .drm file to us via the Support Form .
This will either be in Files → On My iPad → Procreate Dreams → Theater, or iCloud Drive → Procreate Dreams → Theater, depending on your chosen storage location. We cannot guarantee that we'll be able to convert the file, but we will do whatever we can for you.
After upgrading, if you're looking for information on how to use Procreate Dreams 2, be sure to check out the Handbook .
